Open auditions set for Olympic Theatre Arts’ ‘Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks’

Olympic Theatre Arts in Sequim is hosting open auditions for the March production of “Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks,” by Richard Alfieri.

Auditions are set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Olympic Theatre Arts (OTA), 414 N. Sequim Ave.

This two-character comedy/drama has enjoyed tremendous success both nationally and internationally since it premiered with Uta Hagen and David Hyde Pierce, OTA representatives say.

Lily, an “aging but formidable” retiree, hires acerbic dance instructor Michael to give her dance lessons in her condo in St. Petersburg Beach, Fla.

“Antagonism between a gay man and the wife of a Southern Baptist minister gives way to profound compatibility as they swing dance, tango, foxtrot and cha-cha while sharing barbs and intimacies along with the dance steps,” OTA reps say.

The show runs from March 15-24; performance times are 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Auditions are for these characters:

• Lily Harrison, the formidable widow of a Baptist minister.

• Michael Minetti, a gay, sharp-tongued dance instructor hired to give her dancing lessons.

Auditioners will be asked to do a cold read from the script. Proficiency in dance is not required. Auditions are open to everyone, with no appointments necessary. Those unable to attend an audition session are welcome to call 360-683-7326 to make alternate arrangements.

OTA is also looking for creative people to fill out the production team. Those interested in helping out behind the scenes are asked to inquire.
