Sequim chorus director’s group wins at regional competition

Sweet Adelines quartet Wink took first place at the 2019 Sweet Adelines International Region 13 Competition held in Spokane on April 5, and moves on to compete on the International stage in New Orleans on Sept. 18.

The a cappella quartet includes bass Connie Alward, a Port Angeles resident who serves as director of Grand Olympics Chorus in Sequim. Alward has won multiple regional quartet medals over the years and recently has earned the title of Certified Director for Sweet Adelines International. Other Wink members are tenor Kay Keating of Bellevue, lead Melanie McGuire of Olympia and baritone Megan Hofkamp of Marysville.

Sweet Adelines International is a worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, performance and competition. It has evolved into an organization of nearly 21,000 singers that spans the globe.
