Sequim Library lets youths get creative with Saturday art

The Kids Create Art program is offered at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., starting in October.

Led by local artists, the program series — recommended for ages 7-12 — creates “fun, hands-on opportunities for children to explore various artistic media.”

All classes are from 10:30-11:30 a.m. every third Saturday of the month.

Because of class size limitations, registration is required. Register at the Sequim Library events calendar at www.nols.org, call 360-683-1161 or email to youth@nols.org. All materials are provided.

On Oct. 20, artist Carrie Rodlend presents “The Color of Eggplants.” In this class, children uncover the mysteries of color mixing and take these skills into a composition of eggplant purple and greens.

Youths study Egyptian art with artist Eva Kozun on Nov. 17. Using brass foil sheets, students will create a cartouche to wear and a postcard size “Egyptian-inspired” drawing in raised relief.

On Dec. 15, artist Lauralee DeLuca leads a felt jewelry program. Students get their hands wet and clean while having fun learning the ancient art of felting with wool. They will create unique art pieces such as wet felted jewelry and chains.

This program is supported by the Friends of Sequim Library.
