For the 41st year, local churches are celebrating the three wise men coming to Bethlehem.

On Saturday, Jan. 9, Trinity United Methodist Church hosts the annual Epiphany tea that marks the arrival of the three wise men in Bethlehem 12 days after Christmas.

The church is holding the tea three days after the Epiphany date to make it easier for more people to attend.

Barbara Parse, co-coordinator of the tea, said it includes a program on the wise men’s journey, told from the camel’s point of view. Lee Harwell, a local community theater actor, will perform the monologue.

"It’s a different take on the trip and the rigors of it, with some humor," she said.

Refreshments, sandwiches and an Epiphany cake will be available.

"It’s a good time for people to visit and get to know others in the community," Parse said.

The tea rotates among Trinity, St. Luke’s Episcopal, Sequim Community, Faith Lutheran, Dungeness Valley Lutheran and St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic churches.

It averages more than 100 people each year and in its long history has been snowed out only a few times.

The event is free, with a basket available for donations to Sequim Community Aid.

Doors open at 1 p.m. with the program beginning at 1:45 p.m.
