Toastmasters groups set ‘Better Evaluating’ workshop

The Port Angeles and Skwim Toastmasters Clubs co-hosting a 90-minute, hands-on “Better Evaluating” workshop presented by Toastmasters District Director Kyle Hall, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the Raymond Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

The event is open to the public and admission is free. Preregistration is requested at BetterEvaluating.eventbrite.com.

“Feedback helps us improve any skill,” Hall said, “but poorly delivered feedback can do as much damage as it does good. Learning to deliver high quality evaluations can set you apart, both personally and professionally.”

Evaluations are a pivotal part of every Toastmasters meeting and is one of the most critical skills Toastmasters teaches, club members say.

“I’ve been teaching evaluation techniques for over a decade,” Hall said. “This workshop is the most in-depth, most interactive version I’ve created to date.” Attendees will have a chance not only to practice evaluating, but also to receive immediate feedback and suggestions for improvement.

The workshop content focuses on evaluating speakers, but Hall will also be offering tips on being a General Evaluator — which means evaluating other evaluators and entire meetings.

Skwim and Port Angeles Toastmasters are part of Toastmasters International, a worldwide nonprofit educational organization that, “empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.”
