Toastmasters ‘Speech Marathon’ includes district champions

Sequim’s Toastmasters club presents a “Speech Marathon” from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, in the conference room at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

The marathon’s participants include Lindy MacLaine, Toastmasters District 32 International Speech Champion, and Evaluation Champion Sandra Kolb.

Admission is free, and the event is open to the public. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to Kyle Hall at 360-808-5780.

Kolb, a featured guest from Poulsbo’s Little Norway Toastmasters Club, holds the record in District 32 Evaluation Contest wins; she recently achieved her fourth championship.

Sequim’s speech marathon will be emceed by fellow Little Norway club member, David Atkinson.

“We’d love for guests to come cheer us on and see what we do,” Rich Proctor, Skwim Toastmasters Club President said. “This is the perfect meeting for shy guests to attend. Unlike usual meetings, we focus strictly on prepared speeches and evaluations. There’s no chance of being called on for impromptu speaking practice.”

Eight club members will give five- to seven-minute speeches: M.E. Bartholomew, Jean R. McDonald, Kyle Hall, Jeff Tingelstad, Rich Proctor, Sharon Labrecque, Gigi Marunde and MacLaine — who will perform her winning speech from the District Contest in April.

MacLaine takes this speech on to international competition in Chicago this August.

Evaluations of these eight speeches will be given by: Linda Christensen, Sharon Labrecque, Don Woelfle, Jean R. McDonald, Kyle Hall, Craig Barron and Kolb.

Skwim Toastmasters is part of Toastmasters International, a worldwide nonprofit educational organization that empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders. The Sequim club meets on the first, second, and third Tuesdays of the month from 7-8:30 p.m. at The Gathering Place, 135 Fairway Dr., Sequim.
