Tour de Lavender launches new website

The Tour de Lavender, an annual bicycle event that draws hundreds of cycle tourists and their families to the Sequim-Dungeness Valley area every August, has launched a new website to showcase the Aug. 4 event: www.tourdelavender.com.

Developed by Peninsula Web Design, the new site provides information needed for cyclists interested in touring the lavender farms of the Sequim-Dungeness Valley; they can register online, learn all about the area’s lavender farms and purchase merchandise that also serves to advertise Sequim, the tour and the lavender industry.

Started five years ago by cyclist Dan Abbott — who, with wife Janet, also owns Washington Lavender farm — the Tour de Lavender has grown into a popular Olympic Peninsula cycling event.

Cyclists of all abilities and ages have two options: a 34-mile Fun Ride that’s designed for families and individuals, or the more challenging Metric Century (62.5 miles) that offers panoramas from the route’s high points.

The tour saw about 100 participants in its inaugural year of 2013, but registration for the 2018 Tour de Lavender is expected to exceed 500. More than half of those riders come from out of town, many from out of state and some from abroad, event organizers say.

Tour de Lavender proceeds have provided more than $20,000 to the Olympic Discovery Trail and $5,000 toward the launch of the Olympic Peninsula Bicycle Alliance last year.
