Veterans Corner: See us at the fair!

Carlsborg VFW Post 6787 meets the third Saturday of each month at the Mariner’s Cafe at 11 a.m. The program for the Sept. 21 meeting includes guest Cheri Tinker of the North Olympic Regional Veteran’s Housing Network — which has Sarge’s Place, Camp Sol Duc, Sarge’s Farmstand and the Attic in Forks, and the Outpost in Port Angeles. Commander Rod Lee can be reached at sealteam54@q.com if you have questions.

Fair offerings

Voices For Veterans and other service organizations will have booths at the Clallam County Fair, set for Aug. 15-18. Please stop by and talk with the folks in the booths and find out what programs they are have. They can answer questions for you and help you get in contact with folks who can help you.

We also like to thank you for your service and hear “war stories.” Hope to see you at the fair! I will be in the Voices For Veterans booth.

Ringing freedom

There is a bell ringing the last Friday of every month to honor those veterans of Clallam County who passed away the month before. At 1 p.m. on Aug. 30, please come to Veterans Park in Port Angeles and join us in the ceremony. There is a piper, the Marine Corps League Honor Squad, a flag presentation and, of course, the bell is rung for each deceased individual. All are welcome.

Sale supports clubs

The Fleet Reserve Association and American Legion Post 62 are teaming up to put on a yard sale from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the American Legion Post, 107 E. Prairie St. All proceeds are divided between the two organizations to support veterans in our community. If anyone has items they would like to donate to the veteran cause, please contact Tom Fenner at 623-680-9584.

Help out Sarge’s

From 5-6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, Sarge’s Farmstand — located in Forks near 250 Ash Ave. — is hosting Hurricane Hills Winery during the Forever Twilight Festival. Come enjoy wine, tour the farm, buy some fresh produce and merchandise to help support the homeless veterans program. Thank you for your support of Sarge’s Place and Camp Sol Duc. For more information on the programs, see www.sargesplace.com.
