Veterans Corner: Seminar set for veterans’ benefits

Benefit seminar is Saturday

There will be a seminar on Veterans’ Benefits from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 14 at the American Legion Hall, 107 E. Prairie St. sponsored by Discovery Memory Care.

Veteran Service Officers from the American Legion will discuss benefits available, how they work and how to apply for them.

Refreshments are provided and there is no cost to attend.

Sarge’s needs supplies

Sarge’s Farmstand, part of the Sarge’s Place complex in Forks, is in need of gardening supplies.

They need black plastic pots of varying sizes, whiskey barrels, wooden boxes and decorative pots.

You can either mail them to “Sarge’s Place at 250 Ash Ave., Forks, WA, 98331” or have new ones shipped by Amazon.

If you have things to donate they can pick them up in Sequim and Port Angeles by emailing ct.sargesplace@gmail.com.

Daughters of American Revolution to meet

Michael Trebert Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Veterans Center, 216 S. Francis St., in Port Angeles.

After a business meeting Pam Gassman will demonstrate how a proper colonial woman would have dressed from “the inside out.”

Stand Down set

A reminder that the first Voices For Veterans Stand Down of 2018 will be at the Forks Elks Lodge on Thursday, May 3.

Doors open at 9 a.m. and close at 3 p.m.

All veterans are welcome for a hot breakfast and lunch, talk to service providers and use the clothing room. Haircuts will also be available. See you there!

Venue change for military group meeting

The Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America is changing the venue for their monthly general membership meeting.

On May 12 they will meet at 12:30 p.m. at the Sunland Club House, 109 Hilltop Drive, Sequim, for a catered lunch and program by Betsy Schultz, a Gold Star Mother.

Anyone who has served in the U.S. military as an officer is welcome.

Surviving spouses of military officers are also welcome.
