Worldwide ‘Photowalk’ comes to Olympic Peninsula

Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk, the world’s largest photowalk, is set for Saturday, Oct. 6, and includes Marymere Falls near Lake Crescent, just west of Port Angeles.

Dubbed the world’s largest global and social photography event, the Worldwide Photowalk saw more than 25,000 photographers last year explore corners of the world through photography and social community.

The photowalk program encourages walkers to meet up at a pre-designated location to spend a few hours socializing, capturing images and sharing with like-minded people. Most groups follow up the program by meeting at local restaurants to share images and experiences over a meal.

Photo walkers are able to upload their favorite photo or video to a contest for a chance to win a camera, gift cards, apps, camera bags and more. A grand prize winner and 10 finalists will be selected by author/photographer Scott Kelby.

Each year, program organizers encourage participants to help support the initiative to “Walk with a Purpose” by donating to the Springs of Hope Orphanage in Kenya; see gofundme.com/2018-worldwide-photowalk-donations.

Additionally, participants can connect socially before, during and after the event using the #WWPW2018 hashtag on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Gene Royer, a professional photographer with nearly four decades of experience, is the walk leader for the Marymere Falls event. Royer and his wife Kriss are innkeepers/chef at The George Washington Inn and Estates between Sequim and Port Angeles.

The event is free, but pre-registration is required; register at worldwidephotowalk.com/walk/marymere-falls.
