With the abundance of Christmas decorations going up in stores (despite more than 45 days to go), I’ve been thinking a lot about Christmas songs. I love them but only during that post-Thanksgiving period. I posed the following question to some coworkers.

“If you had to listen to one Christmas song before Thanksgiving, what would it be?”

Mike Dashiell, news editor,

“Christmas in Hollis” by Run DMC
“Because it’s awesome. It’s awesome regardless of the time of year.”

Amanda Winters, reporter,

“Baby it’s cold outside” by Frank Loesser.
“It’s not too holiday specific but captures the essence of the season.”

Joan Worley, copy editor,

“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire (the Christmas Song)” by Mel Tormé and Bob Wells
“I like it because there’s no ‘rum pum pum pum’s’ in it.”

Sue Ellen Riesau, publisher,
“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire (the Christmas Song)” by Mel Tormé and Bob Wells
“It’s the most beautiful Christmas song ever and it’s jazzy.”

Pat Coate, special sections editor,
“Grandma got run over by a Reindeer” by Randy Brooks
“I have the .45 of that. It has a peppy tune and funny lyrics. I like singing along loudly to it.”

Donna McMillen, news assistant,
“Jingle Bells” by James Lord Pierpont
“It takes me back to my childhood memories.”

Matthew Nash, reporter and this blog’s blogger,
“A Charlie Brown Christmas” by Vince Guaraldi Trio
“This music is pure perfection and I listen to it year-round. To me, Christmas represents happiness and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and its soundtrack always make me feel good. When Linus gives the speech about the true meaning of Christmas, I still get a little teary-eyed”
