Corporate feed store comes to the peninsula

A new store is opening in Sequim that is meant to give the town a sense of familiarity.

Del’s Feed & Farm Supply is expected to open its doors Friday, March 7. A grand opening celebration honoring customers is scheduled for March 22-23.

Del’s sells pet, livestock, farm, home and garden supplies. It’s one of 24 stores in the U.S. started by Del Capps during the past 32 years and is part of Tractor Supply Company, the largest retail farm and ranch supply store chain in the U.S.

“We felt it was a good area to come to,” said store manager Kelly Elkins about opening the store in Sequim. “Del’s will bring back that rural feeling to Sequim.”

“We are very outgoing and customer-service oriented,” continued Elkins, who moved to the area with his 14-year-old son from Shelton and has been with the company for six years. “We carry anything and everything. If we don’t have it, we can order it.”

Elkins and Del’s Feed & Farm Supply are deeply involved in 4-H and the National Future Farmers of America organizations. “Kids are important,” he said. “They need the programs and need somebody to support the programs. I just want to get out into the community here and give back.”

Store discounts are offered to 4-H and FFA members.

Elkins admits that several stores similar to Del‚Äôs exist in ‚ĮSequim and the surrounding area but insists each business can continue to thrive. ‚ÄúI believe the town can support us all,‚Äù he said. ‚ÄúCompetition is good because it keeps the pricing down.‚Äù

Free deliveries are offered through the end of March. “We deliver anything and everything,” Elkins said. “There is no minimum.”

Del’s Feed & Farm Supply has seven full-time employees and two part-time helpers. If the store does as well as the Monroe and Yelm branches, as many as 16 employees will be hired, according to Elkins.

“We are a fast-growing company and are here for the community and customers,” he said. “So come on in.”
