Mountain View school opens registration

Mountain View Christian School hosts registration for the upcoming school year from 4-7 p.m., Aug. 18 at the school campus, 255 Medsker Road.

Mountain View is a school for students entering grades 1-8. The school year begins Aug. 25.

Sequim students named to U.W. list

Nine Sequim students were named to the University of Washington's dean's list for spring quarter 2008.

They include seniors James Humphrey III, Katrina Mendizza, Chelsea Munro, Stephen Printz; juniors Brian Slattery, Jennifer Tivald; and sophomores Ian Austin, Jessica Baskaran and Shane Dinius.

To be named to the list, students must maintain a grade-point-average of 3.50 and have completed at least 12 graded credit hours.

OCS opens enrollment for next school year

Olympic Christian School, at 43 O'Brien Road in Port Angeles, has open enrollment for the 2008-2009 academic year. Openings are available for preschool and grades K-12.

OCS offers a half-day kindergarten program. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying families. For more information, call 457-4640.

Howard earns CLU degree

Amanda Howard of Sequim was one of more than 300 students to receive bachelor degrees from California Lutheran University this May.

Howard earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (cum laude) in international studies/German.

Howard also was named to the university's dean's honor roll. Students named to CLU's honor roll must maintain a 3.50 grade-point-average or better.

'Families' group collecting school supplies

Officials from Families for Kids and the North Olympic Foster Parent Association are accepting donations for back-to-school supplies for children in Clallam and Jefferson counties who are in foster homes or in kinship care.

While all supplies are needed and appreciated, the greatest need is for new backpacks for middle and high school age students, both boys and girls. The packs need to be sturdy enough to carry big textbooks and binders.

Eaton named to honor society

Valparaiso University student Jonathan Eaton of Sequim was one of several students recently inducted into Pi Gamma Mu, the international social science honor society. Eaton is a senior history major at the Indiana college.

The mission of Pi Gamma Mu is to encourage and recognize superior scholarship in social science disciplines and to foster cooperation and social service among its members.
