Snow days all used up

Sequim administrators set aside three snow days in the 2008-2009 calendar in case of school closures because of snow or bad weather.

With the recent snowfall and school closures on Feb, 26,

Sequim schools have used their third and final snow day. Students are to attend their regularly scheduled classes on Friday, March 27, the last day of school before the districtwide spring break.

Jensen gets EWU scholarship

Derrell Jensen, a Sequim High School senior, recently received a $2,000 Presidential Scholarship to Eastern Washington University.

These scholarships are awarded to high school students with a cumulative high school grade-point average of 3.80 or higher or an SAT score of 1250 or higher.

Jensen graduates from

Sequim High School this spring. He has been involved with the jazz ensemble for four years as well as the percussion ensemble and varsity track. He plans to major in music education at EWU.

Jensen is the son of David and Joellyn Jensen of Sequim.



Shanks directs one-act play at CWU

Four student playwrights shared their own work at Dr. Betty Evans Original One-Act Festival at Central Washington University Feb. 27-March 1, including former Sequim student Andrew Shanks.

Shanks' "Doin' the Cockroach," a play nominated for this year's Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region VII One-Act Competition, details the life of Edmund Carthy, who dies and is reincarnated as a cockroach.

A 2003 graduate of Sequim High School and 2005 graduate of Peninsula College, Shanks is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts-Performance degree at Central Washington.
