One lane on Highway 101

McDonnell Creek bridge on U.S. Highway 101, between Barr and Sherburne roads, will be open to only one-lane of alternating traffic from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. through Thursday, April 2. Minor repairs are being performed.

The bridge was placed on the Washington State Department of Transportation's structurally deficient bridge list, along with 141 others, in June 2008.

Structurally deficient means a bridge requires repair or replacement of a certain component but it does not mean it is in danger of collapse or is unsafe for travel.

Peninsula jiggled

An earthquake centered 26 miles underground jiggled the Olympic Peninsula at 6:10 a.m. Monday -- but no one apparently

noticed it.

"I didn't know anything about it. I've checked and we haven't received any reports," said E9-1-1 Dispatch Center Manager Steve Romberg.

The Sequim Police Department also said it hadn't heard anything.

According to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, the quake had a magnitude of 3.6 and occurred about 26 miles west of Brinnon.

Tsunami warning

The tsunami all-hazard alert broadcast sirens will chime for 10 seconds on Monday, April 6, at Diamond Point in Sequim.

The chimes will be followed by a voice message:

"The following is a test of the siren warning system. It is only a test. This is a test of the siren warning system. If this had been a real emergency, you should tune in your radio to your local radio station or listen to this system for further instructions. This was only a test."

These tests are run on the first Monday of each month.
