Boy Scouts earn 34 merit badges

Boy Scout Troop 1492 held a Court of Honor on May 19 at Sequim Community Church, the troop's sponsor.

Thirty-four merit badges were awarded and six Scouts advanced in rank.

Trenton Mason and Thomas Dorrell earned their second-class and first-class ranks.

Will Bittner, William Hays and Joseph Durning earned their first-class rank.

Mikey Cobb earned his Star Scout rank.

Merit badges were earned by the Scouts listed above as well as by Henry Markham, Eli Berg and Joshua McConnaughey.

The troop is gearing up for a week at Camp Parsons at the end of June and raising funds for a two-week trip and tour along the East Coast next summer, culminating at the National Jamboree and the 100-year anniversary celebration of the Boy Scouts of America at Camp Hill, Va.

The troop originally was chartered on Dec. 31, 2007, with 10 Scouts bridging from Cub Scout Pack 4490.

Nine of the charter members still are with the troop. Three Scouts joined in the past year.
