Port Orchard prepares to fete native author Debbie Macomber

Forks and LaPush aren't the only Northwest towns to lay claims to fame and fortune because of books.

Port Orchard is preparing to celebrate its own author Debbie Macomber and her Cedar Cove series of romance novels.

Readers from across the country have visited Port Orchard looking for their favorite characters and settings, so the town will take advantage of its celebrity by staging a Cedar Cove Days celebration Aug. 27-30.

A 501(c)(4) council has scheduled teas, dinners and talks about the books, with proceeds going to local charities.

The town is cleaning up and repainting in anticipation of the thousands of fans they expect from around

the world.

Readers from 37 states already have purchased tickets and booked reservations.

Macomber has more than 100 million copies of her books in print. She is an award-wining author whose books have appeared on several best seller lists. She explores the relationships among family and friends in small-town America.
