College schedules GED and ESL classes

English as a Second Language classes begin Monday, Sept. 14, at Sequim Community School, 220 W. Alder St., Sequim.

The classes are offered from 1-3:30 p.m. and 5:30-8 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The classes are for those for whom English is a non-native language. They include practice in reading, writing, speaking, listening, pronunciation and interaction skills in small group settings.

General Education Development (GED) classes meet four mornings a week, Monday through Thursday, starting Sept. 21. Class hours are 8-11:30 a.m. These classes include small- and large-group instruction in reading, writing, mathematics and basic computer skills. They are designed to prepare students for the GED test for high school equivalency or transition to college classes.

Community residents who have their high school diploma but wish to improve their skills in reading, writing and math also are welcome.

Students may enroll at any time during the quarter. For more information, call Peninsula College at 417-7981 or 417-6382.
