Ladies night

Maurices names new P.A. store manager

Maurices, a national specialty store for customers with a 20-something attitude, has named Leann Forkan as store manager.

Forkan is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the store, including sales performance, visual presentation, and personnel recruitment and training.

seminar offered

Moms Get Moving offers a "Healthy Mommy, Healthy Baby" seminar series at

5 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.

Learn about branding

A free workshop, "Image Is Everything - Branding and Marketing for the Arts," is 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at The Lodge at Sherwood Village's media room, 660 W. Evergreen Farm Way, near Old Olympic Highway and Fifth Avenue in Sequim.

Presenter Renne Emiko Brock-Richmond will cover the basics of branding to build familiarity with your organization/business, how to articulate your message, demonstrate credibility, solidify loyalty and inspire your audience.

Free shredding

The Port Angeles Eastside branch of First Federal, 1603 E. First St., Port Angeles, hosts a free community shredding event from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, to help people dispose of sensitive documents in a secure way.

Individuals are encouraged to bring sensitive paper for shredding on site by LeMay Mobile Shredding, a professional shredding company. Bring old tax returns, account statements or any paperwork with account or Social Security numbers or other personal information.

Free tax workshop

The Washington State Department of Revenue hosts a free workshop for new and small-business owners from 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Port of Port Angeles Building, 338 W. First St., Port Angeles.

Topics include state excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales tax collection and record-keeping requirements. Attendees can ask questions specific to their businesses and will receive a workbook and reference guide. To register, see www.dor.wa.gov or call 417-9900.
