Holiday bridge closures canceled

Planned nighttime 90-minute construction closures of the State Route 104 Hood Canal bridge are canceled through Friday, Jan. 1.

The bridge closes to traffic for up to 40 minutes for ballasting test openings. The tests were scheduled to correspond with the slack tide at approximately 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, and 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31.

No daytime test openings are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 1.

Bridge openings for marine vessels still will occur as needed.

Drivers are advised to plan ahead and anticipate heavy holiday traffic going to and from the Olympic Peninsula.

Meeting change, officers,

instructors and classes

Peninsula Driftwood Artists meets from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim.

The club has new board members and two new LuRon Method certified instructors.

New board members are Eric Fehrmann, president; Kathie Fehrmann, vice president; Sharon Curnett, secretary; and Mona Nau, treasurer. The publicity and communication committee includes Twila Baukol, Kathie Fehrmann, Jenny Linth and Karen Klein.

Curnett and Baukol were accepted by the Northwest Driftwood Artists as fully certified instructors in late November 2009. Classes will begin in January. Call 457-1380.



League hosts levy meeting

The League of Women Voters of Clallam County hosts a public meeting on the Sequim School District levy at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Citizens for Sequim Schools, including E. Michael McAleer, president; Sarah Bedinger, campaign chairwoman, and Virginia O'Neill, vice president, will present information on the levy: why it exists, when it expires and what it provides for the local district, and comparing it to districts across the state.

The presentation will last about 45 minutes, after which the audience can ask questions of the speakers.



Lodge hosts party

Sequim Elks Lodge 2642 hosts a New Year's Eve party starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31.

The Four Professors plays music from the 1930s-1950s. Hors d'oeuvres and complimentary champagne will be served. Tickets are $20 each. Call 683-2763.



Macintosh group meeting canceled

The meeting of the Strait Macintosh Users Group scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 6, at the Port Angeles Public Library has been canceled.

The next meeting will be in Sequim on Wednesday, Feb. 3. Call 457-4660.



Newcomers hear

about harbor pilots

The Newcomers' Club meets for luncheon

at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at the Red Lion Inn, 221 N. Lincoln St., Port Angeles.

Information about the harbor pilots on the strait and what they do will be shared.

New residents, visitors and members should call 775-8747 by noon Thursday, Dec. 31, for reservations.



Planning commission seat vacant

Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, to fill a vacancy on the city of Sequim's planning commission to complete a term expiring Jan. 10, 2011.

Applicants must reside in the city of

Sequim.

Vegetarian potluck scheduled

A vegetarian/vegan potluck will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Sequim Seventh-day Adventist community services center, 30 Sanford Lane, Sequim.

The potlucks are held the first Wednesday of the month, offering lessons on healthy living, a recipe exchange, ideas and inspiration.

Sequim Aglow hears speaker

A brunch buffet will be served for a suggested donation of $4.
