Dinners resume

Alder Wood Bistro, 139 W. Alder St., Sequim, reopens Tuesday, Feb. 2, for dinner service from 5-9 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays.

The bistro was closed for January for cleaning and vacation.

Lunch service will be suspended for the first few weeks of February because co-owners Gabriel and Jessica Schuenemann are expecting their first child around that time.

Chef Gabriel will prepare a Valentine's Day dinner menu for Sunday, Feb. 14.

Saiz honored

for excellence

Dawn Saiz, supervisor of residential services at Peninsula Community Mental Health Center, was named employee of the quarter.

Her peers nominated Saiz for excellence running the residential program, being extremely active on the center's activities committee, being a vital force in the community representing the agency at community forums, taking an active role each year in the homeless count, being an active board of directors member for the food bank, and developing close working relationships with landlords, police, clergy and entire neighborhoods.

Money accepted

for Haiti relief

In response to the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match $1 for every $2 donated by Thrivent Financial members, up to $1 million for the potential of generating $3 million.

Funds will be directed to four Lutheran organizations to support their Haiti earthquake relief efforts: Lutheran World Relief, ELCA Disaster Response, LCMS World Relief and Human Care and WELS Committee on Relief.

Clinic supports

Angel Tree

The staff of Primary Care Sequim & Walk-In

Clinic adopted 24 families for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.

More than 50 new toys and a dozen warm jackets were donated.

This is the third year the clinic has participated in this program.

Kitchen mastery

Oven Spoonful offers cooking classes from 5:30-

8 p.m. on three Tuesdays in February at the Orchards on Fourteenth, 2602 Plum Court, Port Angeles.

"Pie Crust 101" is the first class, on Feb. 2.

Following classes include "Salad Concepts" on Feb. 9 and "Casual French Seafood Menu" on Feb. 16.

Each class is $35 per person and includes a recipe booklet.

DogShop



series begins

Certified professional dog trainer Judith Bell teaches Best Friend Nutrition's first in the series of "DogShops" from 6-7:30 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 680 W. Washington St., Suite B102, Sequim.

"Dog Parks: the Good, the Bad and the Fun!" is a 90-minute class for humans and their dogs.

The cost is $25, with reservations and payment needed in advance.

Donate PJs to

foster children

Foster children and their families receive new pajamas from Sleep Country USA.

The company's Pajama Drive kicks off a yearlong campaign with six drives, multi-city Pajama Bowl events and activities to support foster children and families.

People can shop and donate items at a Sleep Country USA store or click and donate online at www.sleepcountry.com.

The company closed 2009 with a 10-percent increase in donations, totaling almost 90,000 items.
