Sequim FBLA takes takes eight first-places

Most of the FBLA students pictured placed at the regional competition to go to state in Yakima. The skills learned at competitions and club meetings are applicable in many ways. Alisa Lee, FBLA president, pictured top left, said the club teaches not only good business skills but leadership skills. “FBLA inspires you to get your idea and go with it,” she said.

Sequim High School Future Business Leaders of America students continued to dominate at the group’s competitions.

Saturday, Feb. 6, at Peninsula Regions’ winter conference at Bainbridge High School, seven students took eight first-place finishes. Twelve of Sequim’s 19 participants placed in at least two events and 18 placed in at least one event.

Christy Ditlefsen, FBLA adviser and business teacher, said her students took the top-five places in upperclassmen public speaking, which is the first time she’s heard of that.

Sequim competed in 32 of more than 60 available individual and team events.

Those who placed in the top five can compete at the State Business Leadership Conferences, April 8-10 in Yakima. Most who qualified are planning to go.

In the coming month they will raise about $250 for each student to pay for FBLA fees and hotel.
