North Olympic Peninsula fraud alert

North Olympic Peninsula, February 18, 2010 - Sound Community Bank and Strait View Credit Union are issuing a joint fraud alert on the North Olympic Peninsula.
Calls are being made to Peninsula residents asking them to provide personal and other banking information.  Reports of this telephone fraud began Thursday morning, February 18th.
Residents report they are being asked for debit card numbers, social security numbers, PIN numbers and other personal information.  Some individuals report they talked to a person, while others were prompted by an automated response system to enter information on their phone keypad.
Sound Community Bank and Strait View Credit Union would like to remind community residents that financial institution representatives will never seek personal information over the telephone or via e-mail.
The reported calls were all made to cell phones.  These cell phone numbers were likely obtained from public sources.  No bank customer or financial records have been compromised.
Please report any and all suspicious or fraudulent activity to your local financial institution.  Contact Sound Community Bank in Sequim at 360-683-2818 or in Port Angeles at 360-452-4624.  Strait View Credit Union can be reached at 360-452-3883.
