Keep lungs healthy for life

Lung wellness expert Dr. Audrey G. Gift presents "Breathing for Health" at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at the Olympic Medical Services Building, second-floor conference room, 840 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

In the free 60-minute forum, Gift will review the normal functioning of the lung and chest muscles, share techniques for good lung health, ways to prevent lung disease and warning signs of lung disease.

Gift is a professor emeritus at Michigan State University where she served as associate dean for research and doctoral programs in the College of Nursing and taught nursing theory and research design. Her research has been focused on understanding the experience of shortness of breath (dyspnea) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer.

She received one of nursing's highest honors, becoming a Fellow in the National Academy of Nursing.

Gift is a member of the board of directors of the Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic.
