Learn about hay

A free workshop on selecting hay for animals is from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Fairview Grange, 161 Lake Farm Road, Port Angeles.

Clallam Conservation District, WSU Extension of Clallam County and Clallam County Noxious Weeds Department are teaming up to offer the workshop.

Topics include:

• Evaluating the nutritional quality of hay, including the pros and cons of different hay types

• Determining your animals' nutritional needs

• Haymaking tips for producing or choosing premium quality hay

• Health hazards in your hay, including poisonous and noxious weeds

• Washington Wilderness Hay and Mulch Program (required on federal lands)

A "Hail to the Chief" Bob Spinks Independence Day BOB-R-Q is Friday, July 2, to honor and celebrate Spinks' last day as Sequim's chief of police. KSQM FM radio puts on the event.

Hot dogs, baked beans, chips and drinks will be served, rain or shine, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 6-9 p.m., outside of KSQM in the parking lot at 577 W. Washington St.

Spinks is the announcer for KSQM's Five-O Show from 7-10 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and will be greeting people at both the lunch and dinner. Call 681-0000.

Join Sequim Speaks

Sequim City Council seeks an applicant to fill a volunteer position on Sequim Speaks. Applicants must live within the Sequim School District boundaries in the southwest quadrant of the city.

The board meets at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday each month and is a conduit for information between citizens and the city council.

Hospital Guild thrift shop

Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild's thrift shop, at Second Avenue and Bell Street in Sequim, is open from 11 a.m.-

3 p.m. Saturday, July 3, with all white-tagged items marked half-price.

All proceeds from the thrift shop are returned to the community.

Scouts raise funds

As the Boy Scouts of Troop 90 prepare to go to Florida Sea Base for a week long SCUBA diving adventure, their parents are operating a fireworks stand at the corner of Washington Street and Center Park Way, across from KeyBank.

The troop will sell Krispy Kreme donuts at the same location on Saturday, July 3.

MAC yard sale

Sequim's Museum and Arts Center holds a yard sale from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, in the field in front of the DeWitt building, across from Sequim High School on North Sequim Avenue.

The cost for a space is $20.

Set-up is from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and cleanup is by 3 p.m.

Northwest Raptor Center

The Northwest Raptor Center needs sheets, blankets, aquariums in good condition, dog food, small animal water bottles, baby bottles, straw, alfalfa, bird seed, powdered goats milk, KMR, chain link fencing, 2x4's and 4x4's and an enclosed trailer for the release of wildlife.

Jaye Moore, her family, and a handful of dedicated volunteers have run the center for 29 years. A 501(C)(3) nonprofit corporation, it specializes in the rehabilitation and release of raptors but does not turn away any wildlife in need.

Enological Society

Olympic Peninsula Enological Society holds a southern European tour of wines and food from 5-8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at Sunland's Sunny Shore Beach House

It features wines and food from Italy, France and Spain including gazpacho, grilled meats and cheesecake.

The reservation deadline is July 19.
