City seeks tax advisory member

The city of Sequim has a vacancy on its Lodging Tax Advisory Committee.

The position requires someone working in a business that collects lodging taxes.

Pajama story time at Sequim Library

Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., is hosting a pajama story time at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19. People are encouraged to wear pajamas, slippers and robes and bring a soft blanket and stuffed animals.

Red Cross reception

Returning Olympic Peninsula military personnel from all branches of the service and their families are invited to a "Welcome Home Reception" at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at American Red Cross, 151 Ruth's Place, Carlsborg.

The reception includes families on the peninsula whose service member is elsewhere.

Information will be available about Red Cross services, including emergency help.

Music series continues

Music at McComb Gardens is from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, at 751 McComb Road, Sequim.

The Marmalades, A clarinet quartet, plays jazz. Musicians include Bob Golightly, Susan Schultz and Jan Proebstel, clarinet; Signe Crawford, clarinet and alto clarinet; and Bobbie Usselman, bass clarinet.

Knights, rooks, pawns

The newly created Friends of Olympic Peninsula Chess hosts a tournament for local players from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave.

Entrance fee is $10. Each player is guaranteed four games.

The Sequim Chess Club meets from 3:30-6:30 p.m. each Thursday afternoon at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church.

Fly with the Eagles

Chapter 430 of the Experimental Aircraft Association is offering free introductory flights to young people between ages 8-17 from 10 a.m.-

2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at

Sequim Valley Airport.

The Young Eagle Program was created to introduce young people to aviation. Minors must be accompanied by or have written permission from a parent or legal guardian. This is the final Young Eagle event this summer.

Fair auction set

Clallam County Junior Livestock Auction will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Clallam County fairgrounds, 1608 W. 16th St., Port Angeles.

Raider plays at city pier

Jim Valley, former lead guitarist and vocalist for the original Paul Revere and the Raiders rock band, is in concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, at the Port Angeles City Pier.

Valley and show organizers are raising funds for The Answer for Youth, a nonprofit organization providing "emotional and spiritual support for street-wise youth."

Sign pickup

Volunteers with Citizens for Libraries will be picking up "Yes for Libraries" yard signs between Tuesday evening, Aug. 17, and Saturday, Aug. 21.

People can bring their signs between Tuesday, Aug. 17, and Friday, Aug. 20, to Blake Tile & Stone, 490 S. Blake Ave., Sequim, or Zenovic and Associates, 301 E. Sixth St., Port Angeles.

The Lions Health Screening Unit will be in the Safeway parking lot, 680 W. Washington St., Suite F, Sequim, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28.

Screenings are available for blood pressure, glaucoma, diabetes, sight and hearing.

Mount Pleasant Grange in Port Angeles is sponsoring a community flea market and yard sale from 9 a.m.-

2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the grange's community hall at 2432 Mount Pleasant Road.

The sale is a fundraiser for community hall maintenance.

Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild's thrift shop will be open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Second Avenue and Bell Street. All white tag items will be half-priced.

Celebrating 20 years of Salmon Coalition

The North Olympic Salmon Coalition is celebrating its 20th year with a celebration dinner from 5:30-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, in the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe Community Center, 1031 Old Blyn Highway. A salmon dinner, auction items and live music will be available. Tickets are $15 and available by contacting 360-379-8051, nerreca@nosc.org, or paying with cash or check at the door.
