Sequim woman charged with arson

A 24-year-old Sequim woman was charged with first-degree arson Aug. 19 after allegedly pouring gas on a man and lighting his apartment on fire.

Heather N. Tomaino was charged in Clallam County Superior Court and will be arraigned on Friday.

Port Angeles police officers said the case began June 9 when fire fighters and police responded to the report of a residential fire in the 700 block of East First Street in Port Angeles.

The resident told police Tomaino splashed gas on him in his apartment during an argument then lit a fire with a cigarette, according to court documents.

The victim extinguished the fire and was not injured, police said.

The scene was processed by investigators from the Port Angeles police and fire departments and detectives continued the investigation.

The Clallam County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the investigation and charged Tomaino, who remains in Clallam County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
