Veterinarian joins Humane Society

Suzy Zustiak, DVM, has joined the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society, said Marsha Robin, board president.

"Dr. Zustiak is our shelter's first full-time veterinarian, and our board as well as our staff team are enormously pleased and excited about the new direction and energy Suzy brings to us," Robin said.

Zustiak is from Whidbey Island. In high school she decided to pursue veterinary medicine and began working toward that goal following graduation in 2000.

She attended Washington State University as an undergraduate and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology.

"Then following a couple years of soul searching and kennel cleaning, I was accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine at WSU," Zustiak said.

Zustiak spent many hours volunteering at a shelter prior to veterinary school.

"I knew that taking care of the homeless animals was my future," she said.

"I am really excited to be able to live amongst the trees, mountains and beaches in western Washington once again and I am thoroughly enjoying the challenges and opportunities that being a part of the team that our shelter offers."
