Clallam 4-Hers shine at state fair

Local 4-H members know their horses and have the ribbons to prove it.

In mid-September, Clallam County Senior Performance representatives went to Puyallup to participate in the Washington State 4-H Fair.

Suzanne Heistad and Olivia Pluard received blue ribbons in Showmanship, Hunt Seat, Stock Seat, Bare Back and Trail.

Lauren Gallacci received a blue ribbon in Hunt Seat, red in Showmanship and Stock Seat and a white in trail.

The Equine Judging contest also was held that week. Clallam County sent a team comprised of five Senior Division members (ninth-grade through 18 years old) and two Intermediates (sixth- through eighth-graders).

The team won 10th place in the state with blues picked up by Heistad, Pluard, Gallacci and Marissa Wilson. Nathan Gentry won a red ribbon. Intermediates Ashley Farmer and Valora Bain both won blue ribbons.

Wilson won a grand

champion in showmanship in the Senior Western

Games, topping a field of

126 competitors.

She also scored white ribbon times in Barrels, Poles, Key Race, and Figure Eight.

All of the Clallam County competitors won blue ribbons in herdsmanship for the skills shown during the fair.
