When it's OK to ask for help

Vicki Anderson and Catherine Van Os have known each other for almost their entire lives, been friends for more than 40 years and have worked together for 15 years.


They know each other's strengths and weaknesses and tend to finish each other sentences without even realizing it.

After much consideration, the two "homegrown"

Sequim women started North Star Concierge last April.

North Star Concierge is a licensed, bonded and insured company that provides personal assistance for the home and business.

"Helping people is a privilege to us," Van Os said, with Anderson nodding in agreement.

"We don't know any other way."

With the motto, "V.I.P. Services to Simplify Your Life," Anderson and Van Os are willing to take on just about any task: Shopping, pharmacy pick-up and delivery, shipping, arranging appointments, organizing paperwork and mail, pet care, light bookkeeping, clarifying insurance issues, completing special projects, real estate staging, coordinating home repairs and maintenance, holiday decorating, entertainment planning and more. All special requests are considered.

"Years of working in health care administration have given us a unique perspective and we understand how personal services can dramatically impact the quality of life," Anderson and Van Os wrote in an introductory letter they sent to dozens of local businesses and individuals.

"Our mission is to provide unparalleled concierge and personal assistant services and to treat our clients with compassion, kindness, respect and professionalism."

Though North Star Concierge doesn't provide transportation or caregiving, Anderson and Van Os can coordinate with other companies that do.

"People get overwhelmed with life and family and all their responsibility and they just need a little help to get back on track," Anderson said.

"There's nothing wrong with that," Van Os added, "it just makes you human like the rest of us."

North Star Concierge's service area includes Port Angeles and Sequim. Business conducted outside of those areas includes additional fees.

"Even if you don't need our services now you might need them in six months ... " Van Os said.

"... So just keep us in mind," Anderson finished.
