Eat out to support United Way campaign

Eat out to support United Way campaign

Tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 28, is United Way of Clallam County's 21st annual Restaurant Day. Restaurants in Port Angeles, Sequim and Forks will donate a portion of their proceeds to United Way.

"During your breakfast, lunch or dinner on Thursday, you can help your community by eating at your favorite restaurant or stopping in for coffee or dessert. Don't forget to thank the restaurant for their support of the many agencies that will receive United Way funding," said Dan McKeen, United Way campaign chairman.

This year there is an added competition "brewing" with espresso shops encouraging customers to round up for United Way, organized by Sean Galloway from A Brewed Awakening.

McKeen also noted, "Each year restaurants and small businesses all over Clallam County make generous contributions in support of United Way. The generosity of these businesses helps support the quality of life within our community."

Also on Thursday, volunteers will be calling on local businesses in Port Angeles and Sequim to request a donation to United Way.

United Way hopes to raise $1 million this fall. Currently the campaign total is at $127,000. Funds will be distributed throughout 2011 to 25 partner agencies, United Way Community Solutions and other nonprofit organizations as requested by donors.

"We are hearing from more and more community members in need this year and every donation helps, no matter the size," said Brown Maloney, Sequim campaign chairman. Sequim raised $210,000 last year; the 2010 campaign has reported $50,000 to date.
