Suspect charged after bomb threat

On Wednesday, Oct. 27, Johannes L. Helgeson, 41, of Clallam County, was charged in Clallam County Superior Court with threats to bomb.

On Tuesday, Oct. 26, Helgeson contacted a sheriff's deputy and said he had placed a bomb in the Federal Building in downtown Port Angeles. Both city and federal law enforcement were notified. Officers responded to the scene and Port Angeles detectives immediately were assigned to the case.

Detectives spoke to Helgeson and then booked him into the Clallam County Jail.

The Clallam County prosecutor reviewed the case and charged Helgeson with threats to bomb, a class B felony. A judge also reviewed the case and ordered Helgeson held on $100,000 bail.

Helgeson remains in the Clallam County Jail awaiting his arraignment, which is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Nov. 5.
