Art in Bloom exhibition to honor co-founder

A popular Mother’s Day tradition returns with a new name May 6-8.

The Mim Foley Art in Bloom exhibition pairs floral design with other artwork at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd. Hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. each of the three days and admission is free.

The exhibition honors the late Mim Foley, who, along with Mary Lou Waitz and Bernice Cook, launched the project in 2004.

Foley died in an auto accident just as the 2010 exhibition was about to be mounted; the exhibition will bear her name in years to come in her honor and with the ongoing support of the Foley family.

For this weekend show, floral designers affiliated with the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs respond to works from the center’s “Strait Art” exhibition with complementary floral arrangements that play off the forms, colors and concepts in the chosen artworks.

This year’s participating floral designers are Bernice Cook, Sue Conklin, Billie Fitch, Judi McClanahan, Marian Meany, Linda Nutter, Mary Lou Paulson, Laurie Tillman, Mary Lou Waitz, Marge Wahlgren, Patty Wheatley and Betty Wren.
