Extreme fire danger in the Olympic Mountains

Northwest Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Olympic Mountains thru 10 p.m. tonight with most concern for higher elevations. Haines Index of 5 & 6 expected with RH below 25 percent. Please use extreme caution in the mountains and in any wooded or grassy areas!

* AFFECTED AREA...FIRE WEATHER ZONES 652 AND 661. OLYMPIC NATIONAL
  PARK AND OLYMPIC NATIONAL FOREST.

* HAINES...MID-LEVEL HAINES 6. HIGH-LEVEL HAINES 5.

* TEMPERATURES...HIGHS IN THE 80S...EXCEPT UPPER 70S ABOVE 4500 FEET.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...MINIMUM RH BELOW 25 PERCENT.

* IMPACTS...THESE CONDITIONS WILL FAVOR LARGE FIRE GROWTH AND
  ERRATIC FIRE BEHAVIOR.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW...OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF
STRONG WINDS...LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY...AND WARM TEMPERATURES WILL
CREATE EXPLOSIVE FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL.
