1:45 p.m. — Greywolf Elementary, 171 Carlsborg Road. Services are held on blacktop area west of the gymnasium. A Coast Guard pilot/speaker will land a helicopter on the green field at 2 p.m., weather permitting.

8:20 a.m. — Sequim Middle School, 301 W. Hendrickson Road. Veterans should check in at the attendance office by 8:10 and receive an escort to the gymnasium.

Gardiner ceremony honors local Medal of Honor winner
U.S. Navy Seabees from the Northwest will honor Navy Seabee Medal of Honor recipient Marvin G. Shields during Veterans Day ceremonies at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11, at the Gardiner Community Cemetery.
Because of limited parking at the cemetery, the public is encouraged to park at the Gardiner Community Church at 1040 Old Gardiner Road. A bus will transport attendees to the cemetery beginning at 10:15 a.m.
The annual ceremony is sponsored by the Navy Seabee Veterans of America and will be conducted by Eric Davis of the local chapter.
Construction Mechanic Third Class Marvin Shields died in 1965 and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
Vets Day Luncheon at Prairie Springs
Prairie Springs House, 680 W. Prairie St., Sequim, hosts a free Veterans Day luncheon at noon Friday, Nov.11.
At 11:30 a.m. local Boy Scout Troop #90, led by Karl Wood, conducts a flag ceremony.
Chef Sara Helehan serves Yankee pot roast with roasted potatoes, green salad and banana splits.

Coast Guard hosts Vets Day ceremony
Coast Guard Air Station/Sector Field Office Port Angeles will host its 16th annual Veterans Day ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11.
Sponsored by the Clallam County Veterans Association, the event will feature U.S. Army Maj. Jennifer Willis, along with performances by the Port Angeles High School Band, the Sequim High School Select Choir, the Olympic Peninsula Men’s Choir and the Grand Olympics Chorus of Sweet Adelines International.
The public is welcome. Enter the Coast Guard Station from the front gate at the end of Ediz Hook in Port Angeles starting at 9:30 a.m. Have photo identification available at the entry checkpoint.
Fees waived for Veterans weekend
The U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management will waive fees at most day-use recreation sites over Veterans Day weekend to honor U.S. veterans and members of the U.S. armed forces.

State ‘Hometown Heroes Raffle’ runs through Veterans Day
Washington’s Lottery and the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs have launched an annual Hometown Heroes Raffle through Nov. 11. Every $10 raffle ticket purchased benefits the WDVA’s Veterans Innovations Program, which provides crisis and emergency relief, as well as education, training and employment assistance for Washington veterans returning from post-9/11 conflicts.
