Celebratory sidewalk

Sequim Gazette staff

The City of Sequim continued celebrating recent road projects on Jan. 3 with a ribbon cutting over new sidewalks on North Third Avenue.

C&J Excavating of Carlsborg completed the project, which spans the east side of the street from the alley between West Spruce Street and West Alder Street to West Fir Street, in late December.

Part of the new sidewalks line the west side of the Sequim Community School. The project cost about $55,000, which came from funds within the Transportation Benefit District.

Mayor Ken Hays attributed the project’s completion to Councilman Don Hall, who lobbied councilors and staff to make the project a priority.

Some future projects this year include a pavement evaluation of city streets, resolving traffic issues at the intersection of Fir Street and Sequim Avenue, and overlaying South Sequim Avenue from Washington Street to Hammond Street.
