Locals enter the Crazy Daze of Irrigation Festival

The second Friday of Irrigation Festival means Crazy Daze are ahead with the annual breakfast special event.

Nikki Sturm, event co-organizer, said 190 dignitaries, royalty, business people and more packed Sunland Clubhouse on May 11 dressed in costumes to perform skits for a chance at prizes.

This year’s top honor, the Crazy Callen award, went to Chris Coventon for his clown routine promoting the Logging Show.

The award is named after D.R. Callen, who designed and developed irrigation ditches. His concepts were considered far out, so he was dubbed “Crazy Cal,” hence the name of the event.

Other awards included:

• Royalty award — Dungeness River Audubon Center

• Costume award — Columbia Bank

• Pioneer award — KeyBank

• Chairman award — Sound Community Bank
