2013 Irrigation Festival gets under way with logo contest

The Sequim Irrigation Festival Board invites submissions for the 118th Irrigation Festival logo contest. The 2013 festival theme, “Dancing Through the Valley,” will be carried out in collectible festival lapel pins, posters, float design, programs, advertising, the royalty pageant and in festival events.

The artist of the winning logo receives a $100 gift certificate, merchandise, tickets to festival events and recognition at the festival.

During the centennial year of 2013, Sequim will highlight a different decade each month.

The decade for May 2013 is the 1950s, the decade of black-and-white TV and movies when people in the hard-working agricultural community of Sequim gathered to do the jitterbug, the Lindy hop, the rhumba, the tango, the Mashed Potato and the Twist at dances in barns and halls or joined the “Snake Dance” through town on Homecoming night.

Ideas for implementing the theme in a logo might include black and white, small-town life in the 1950s, dancing, elegance, 1950s dance types, rock and roll, big bands and a “pop” of color.

Contest rules and submission guidelines are at www.irrigationfestival.com or contact gail@gailsumpter.com. Entries are due Aug. 31.
