Humane Society to host forum on Friday

The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society will hold a public forum on Friday, Aug. 24, to seek comment from county residents regarding the organization’s proposal to construct a modern, state-of-the-art animal care and adoption center in the Port Angeles-Sequim area.

Free to county residents, the forum is facilitated by Tim Crum of the consulting company Animal Shelter Fundraising.

The forum is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Peninsula Room of the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St., Port Angeles.

The forum comes almost two months after the humane society board commissioned the Arizona-based Animal Shelter Fundraising to conduct a building planning study to make recommendations for the optimum size, animal housing capacity and location of a new animal shelter.

The nonprofit humane society’s current 2,900 square-foot facility was constructed in 1956 and is showing signs of excessive “wear and tear.”
The organization feels it has outgrown its current facility, which no longer meets the needs of the community.

To attend the public forum, county residents must register in advance. Use the registration link available at the humane society’s website at or the Facebook fan page at

The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society shelters animals of all types. The private, nonprofit corporation is financed primarily by private donations and gifts. Officials estimate 2,500-3,000 animals pass through the doors of the facility each year.
