Around 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, Dale Harris, 53, of Sequim, allegedly drove a 1979 Chevrolet van off Towne Road and into the steps of the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road.

Clallam County Sheriff's Office reports the van struck and broke off pieces of concrete and destroyed the hand rail on the steps of the schoolhouse before continuing to graze the foundation and coming to rest on the grass.

The Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley, which owns the schoolhouse, is continuing to estimate the cost of damages.

Harris, the only occupant of the van, was uninjured. He allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot.

Some neighbors witnessed the wreck and alerted a deputy, who found Harris in a nearby field.

Harris was arrested and incarcerated in the Clallam County Correctional Facility without incident for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs.

The van sustained front-end damage and flat tires and was impounded and towed from the scene.
