Single-vehicle rollover crash blocks 101 west of Port Angeles

A single vehicle rollover accident blocked U.S. Highway 101 in both directions early Thursday morning for several minutes.

The accident occurred at the intersection of 233066 Highway 101 and Maple Grove Road west of Port Angeles near the community Shadow Mountain. A 1998 Toyota pickup driven by Bill Gallauher of Port Angeles reportedly rolled multiple times before coming to rest in the center of the two-lane highway.

No one was injured or required medical assistance as a result of the accident as the driver and a passenger extricated themselves from the upside-down vehicle.

According to statements taken at the scene, a passenger van was westbound on Highway 101 and slowed to turn left onto Maple Grove Road. Gallauher observed the van slowing in front of his pickup and reacted to avoid a collision. In doing so, his pickup left the roadway, returned to the roadway and rolled.

Washington State Police is investigating the accident.

Clallam County Fire District 2 responded with a medic unit, an engine, a command vehicle and eight firefighter/medics. Traffic was held up from about 9:55-10:30 a.m., when the pickup and debris were removed from the roadway by State Patrol.
