AARP offers safety programs

AARP present a Driving Safety Program monthly in Sequim to review safe driving techniques and awareness of traffic laws in Washington.

At the conclusion of the eight-hour course, a certificate is issued that by state law must be honored by a discount on car insurance. Any age individual may take the class and be granted a certificate, but only those 50 and older are eligible for the reduction in their car insurance.

The next class is scheduled for 9 a.m.-1 p.m., June 13-14, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim.

Fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. The fee is collected the first day of class and certificates distributed the second day. Classes are limited in size; make reservations for the class by calling the Sequim Senior Center at 683-6806.

The AARP class instructors teach current techniques for driving defensively and how best to adjust to today’s challenging driving environment.

Reservations are being taken for the July class, scheduled for the same meeting place and times on July 18-19. A class is scheduled for Aug. 28-29 at The Lodge at Sherwood Village, 660 Evergreen Way, Sequim.
