Spotlight on irrigation: Float unveiled Saturday
From mountains to sea to the casino, that’s where the Sequim Irrigation Festival’s 2014 float is unveiled before the annual Kickoff Dinner.
Long-time float builder Dan Rigg has worked with a small team since December creating the float for festival Queen Katey Tapia and Princesses Kaylee Ditlefsen, Kristina Holtrop and Judi Villella.
With the theme from “Mountains to Sea … A Pristine Place to Be,” the royalty rolls out in front of 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, March 22, with the dinner and auction afterward at 5 p.m.
The float features a beautiful backdrop, driftwood, rocks, seashells, grass and a lighthouse built by Brant Parks, with a working light to lead the way for the girls. Former festival princess Danyelle Wilson painted the mountains below the backdrop, too.
At the dinner, participants can meet the festival’s royalty, grand marshal, grand pioneers and honorary pioneers, the artists who designed the festival lapel pin and festival button.
Tickets were on sale but sold out of its 200 seats. The dinner is the festival’s biggest fundraiser of the year, which includes live and silent auctions. Shawnna Rigg and Stephanie Sweet coordinated the unveiling and dinner.
The Sequim Irrigation Festival runs from May 2-11.
