A Grand Finale to 123 years of irrigation

Following a smooth first weekend, organizers of the 123rd Sequim Irrigation Festival plan to finish with a Grand Finale.

Events run Thursday-Sunday, May 10-13, with the operetta “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” continuing into its second week while on Thursday morning, the Sequim Museum & Arts hosts a walking tour at 11 a.m. downtown.

More events kickoff Friday with The Logging Show opening up at 10 a.m. for its 30th year followed by a Strongman Showdown at 6 p.m. and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. on the Blake lot.

Sunland Golf & Country Club hosts the festival’s tournament at noon on Friday with spots still available by contacting Janet Gray at 360-683-8095 or jgray@bgc-op.org or by going online to www.bgc-op.org under the “events” tab.

The Hot Rods and Harleys Show n’ Cruzz drives into its 15th year with staging for the cruise along Washington Street beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, at Evergreen Collision, 703 E. Washington St., and the parade starting at 10:45 a.m. heading towards Sequim Walmart, 1110 W. Washington St.

Registration for the show begins at 9 a.m. outside the store with awards at 4 p.m. It costs $20 to register for both events the day of the show or $15 if attendees register by 2 p.m. Friday, May 11 to Randy Perry at Sequim Shoe Repair, 425 E. Washington St. Suite 5.

The festival’s Fun Run on Saturday added a 1-mile walk that happens at the same time as the 5k, which starts at 10 a.m. with registration at 8:30 a.m. in the JCPenney parking lot. Wristbands for unlimited rides at the carnival, set for Thursday-Sunday, are on sale now at Sound Community Bank, KeyBank (Sequim/Port Angeles), Dungeness Kids Co., and the Visitor Information Center for $22 through May 9 and $27 at the event.

One of the most well-attended events, the Grand Parade, features more than 100 entries with dignitaries, royalty, businesses and much strolling along Washington Street starting at noon on Saturday.
