One seat is up for election on the Clallam Conservation District board and two Sequim candidates are vying for it.

Incumbent Bob Forde seeks to retain his seat, while challenger Marilyn Pollock hopes to take over the position.

The filing period for the position ended Feb. 11. District manager Joe Holtrop said that hasn’t stopped late, write-in candidacies in the past. Anyone residing in and registered to vote in Clallam County is eligible to run and vote for the position.

The election takes place from 3-6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Sequim High School cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave., or the Port of Port Angeles office, 338 W. First St., Port Angeles.

Five positions comprise the Conservation District board of supervisors. Each serves a three-year term of office without compensation. Registered Clallam County voters elect three of the positions. The Washington State Conservation Commission appoints the other two positions.

The board governs official matters of the conservation district. Conservation districts are nationwide, grassroots conservation agencies. Each year the Clallam Conservation District seeks grant funds from the Washington Department of Ecology, Salmon Recovery Funding Board, the North Olympic Salmon Coalition and other sources for ongoing or special projects, such as piping irrigation ditches throughout the Sequim-Dungeness Valley.

In addition, the local district offers a popular native plant sale, a quarterly newsletter and monthly meetings to keep county residents informed of its activities.
