The musical choices promise to suit every taste at the Northwest Womens Chorales upcoming performance.
The program (has) everything from Broadway tunes to American classical (songs), jazz to spirituals with a contemporary twist and sacred to folk songs, said NWWC musical director Joy Lingerfelt of the concert entitled Hold On: Songs of Peace, Justice and Everlasting Love. Several songs will be preceded by a brief reading relating to the lyrics.
The nearly 20 women of the chorale, which began in late 2006 with six women who had a passion for singing, will be accompanied by pianist and French horn player Kristin Brye, flutist Carlos Xavier and cellist Marlene Moore as special guests on several numbers.
The group, that debuted with a concert in spring 2007 and almost exclusively sings music composed and arranged for female vocalists, has performed numerous times in Sequim and Port Angeles over the past year, including benefit concerts for Peninsula Mens Gospel Singers director Michael Rivers and the flood victims of Chehalis.
For Hold On, the chorale members have chosen a variety of upbeat songs including Set me as a Seal, Buttons and Bows and The Entertainer, the only theme being sanctity of community.
Our group continues to explore a wide variety of quality music. Im delighted by the response of the community to our music and Im pleased with the continued growth of our audience, Lingerfelt said. Singing together remains one of the most valuable assets a culture can possess!
Lingerfelt added that the group always is looking for women to audition. For more information, visit www.NWWomensChorale.com or e-mail director@NWWomensChorale.com.
