One of Al Dixon’s final official acts as president of Sequim’s Noon Rotary Club was to pack and ship 252 DVDs collected by Sequim Rotarians for hospitalized veterans.

On June 30, Dixon called to say, “I boxed up all of the DVDs that we collected for the vets and mailed them off to the DVDs4Vets headquarters in New York today.”

DVDs4Vets is a nonprofit organization that collects and distributes movies to hospitalized veterans who cannot obtain DVDs on their own. It is supported by HBO, Time Warner Cable, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans of America, Iraq War Veterans Organization and a number of other veteran groups.

The Rotary Club of Sequim will be added to the organization’s Web site “Honor Roll.”

DVDs4Vets representatives in New York said they were very grateful for the movies donated by the Sequim club and stated Noon Rotary Club members collected DVDs from shoppers at Wal-Mart and Safeway.

“Everyone we talked to was very supportive,” Dixon said. “We had a great turnout for this club service project. Our club members should be very proud for a job well done.”

Rotary Club of Sequim is a local service club and 501(c)3 philanthropic organization assisting the community through local service projects and donations to worthwhile local causes, as well as a part of Rotary International that participates in the worldwide effort to eradicate polio and other global calamities.
