A written decision is expected this week on Clallam County Public Utility District's change of use application for the former Costco Wholesale property and building in Carlsborg.

The application was the subject of a Nov. 12 public hearing before Clallam County hearing examiner Chris Melly at the Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles.

Melly said Nov. 13 that he should have a decision within a week.

Clallam PUD agreed in late September to pay $3.8 million for the 14-plus acre property and building at the southwest corner of Hooker Road and U.S. Highway 101 in Carlsborg.

The district plans to use the building as its main warehouse and possibly build a new headquarters west of the building.

The existing 72,000-square-foot building would be used for inside storage for utility equipment and operation vehicles, according to the application.

The existing office would be remodeled and about 2.5 acres of parking lot would be converted to outside storage for large utility equipment and vehicles with 30 parking spaces remaining.

Clallam PUD's current headquarters is located at 2431 E. Highway 101, east of Port Angeles.

Clallam PUD has 130 employees who work in offices and shops in Sequim, Carlsborg, Port Angeles, Forks and Clallam Bay/Sekiu.

It serves about 28,500 electricity customers in Sequim, Forks and the unincorporated areas of Clallam County plus the Port Townsend Paper Corp. mill.
