Call it "Science Fair, Version 2.0."

For the past seven years, Clallam County's Public Utility District has hosted the Power for the Future Science Competition for students in grades 4-12, aiming to spur interest in science among elementary-, middle- and high school-aged youths.

In previous years, the PUD challenged students with projects such as designing and building catapults.

This year, the contest is targeted toward students in grades 7-10, a youth demographic contest organizers calls the "YouTube Generation." To entice that group, the 2009 Power for the Future Science Competition is dubbed "Lights-Camera-Conservation!" and featuring students' two to three-minute digital video or PowerPoint slideshow presentations.

Contest entries are to have an energy-conservation-at-school theme.

Entries are due by March 2; the event is slated for Saturday, March 21.

Organizers for the Power for the Future Science Competition are seeking co-sponsors for the event.

Funds raised from co-sponsors help with facility rental costs, equipment rental and costs related to scholarships, prizes and refreshments at the event.

Sponsorship opportunities and recognition levels include company logos and names on banners, tote bags, flyers and posters, customer newsletters, event Web page and programs, depending upon sponsorship level.

Sponsor checks should be mailed to Clallam County PUD or delivered by Jan. 16.

For more information or to co-sponsor the event, contact Shoshanah Wright, event chair, at 565-3419 or by e-mail, shoshanahw@clallam
