The Olympic Medical Center Foundation will present its second annual heart luncheon at SunLand Golf & Country Club on Friday, Feb. 27.
Attendees will learn how to check and monitor their vital numbers: cholesterol, blood pressure and healthy body weight.
Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. Guests are encouraged to dress in red.
Dr. Peter Albro of The Polyclinic in Seattle will deliver the keynote speech.
Albro is a board-certified cardiologist. His practice encompasses all areas of heart disease.
Joining Albro at the microphone will be Olympic Medical Center's Dr. Rebecca Corley, who is board certified in pulmonary and critical care medicine.
Corley enjoys all aspects of pulmonary medicine, especially maximizing breathing capacity through exercise and smoking cessation.
Proceeds will benefit patients of Olympic Medical Center Cardiac Services.
The first Red, Set, Go! luncheon raised $20,000 in 2008. The money helped buy 20 ambulatory monitors.
The purpose of the luncheon, according to Sara Maloney, event chairwoman, is "to inspire women to become educated to improve their heart health."
Many women are surprised to learn that heart disease is not only the No. 1 killer of women but that it kills more women under the age of 45 than any other disease.
Statistics show that heart disease kills one person every 34 seconds in the U.S.
"We are committed to a three-year campaign to raise the awareness about the critical issue of heart health for women on the Olympic Peninsula," Maloney said.
Corporate sponsors include Qwest, the Sequim Gazette, First Federal, Sequim Health & Rehabilitation, Dr. Kara Kurtz Urnes, Airlift Northwest, Boston Scientific, AstraZeneca and Karen Rogers Consulting.
Tickets cost $50 per person.
